[EN] As the problems of conservation of stone are common to the vast majority of restoration works, it is important to study and compare the interventions carried out on different monuments. This article on the restoration carried out by the architect Alfredo Vera Botí on Murcia Cathedral completes the article on the Direction Plan published in the first issue of LOGGIA with a more detailed description, and specification on the organization of the works.

(Universitat Politècnica de València, 1997-05-09) Dalla Negra, Riccardo
[EN] Recent years have seen a great architectural and pictoric restoration operation to salvage one of the most emblematic edifices in the history of architecture: the dome of the church of Santa Maria del Fiore, built by Brunelleschi in the first half of the 14th century. The architect Dalla Negra gives a passionate description of the complex restoration process both of the masonry and the paintings on the intrados and a detailed account of the organization of the work, with special attention to the scaffolding.

(Universitat Politècnica de València, 1997-05-09) Casadevall Serra, Joan
[EN] Today more and more cities are paying special attention to the colour of plaster when undertaking the rehabilitation of their historic centres. The architect Joan Casadevall, director of Gabinete de Color, a studio with a great deal of experience in studies on urban chromatism, explains the Colour Scheme for Melilla, a city that will celebrate in 1997 the 5th Centenary of Spanish presence there, demonstrating once again that the colour of historic architecture is closely linked to the styles and ways of working of each period and place, and that its investigation must be carried out not in a haphazard fashion but very methodically.

Restauración de las Cuevas del Conventico en Melilla
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 1997-05-09) Vellés Arquitectos, Estudio
[EN] The citadel of Melilla, an example of military architecture that reached its greatest splendour in the 17th century, was declared a Monumental Ensemble in 1953. There are vestiges of underground architecture from the last third of the 18th century which have played an important role as a refuge since then. The restoration of the ruins of Cuevas del Conventico was initiated in 1990, because their state of repair posed a threat to the citadel. The studies, maps and project carried out by the team captained by the architect Javier Vellés display enormous sensitivity and constitute a strong, cultured image that melds in with the Melilla landscape and contributes to its characterization on its 5th Centenary.

La Sinagoga del Tránsito Rehabilitación del Museo Sefardí. Toledo
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 1997-05-09) Bravo Durá, Carmen; Martínez Ramos, Jaime
[EN] According to architects Carmen Bravo and Jaime Martínez, authors of the restoration and this article, seldom have there been cases of historic buildings used as museums in which the container surpasses the content, not because of the latter’s lack of value, but because of the enormous value of the former. The main aim of restoration is to approach the building as a museum-piece in its own right, recovering spaces, illumination and circulation. The intervention eliminates constructive pathologies on the building, restores space, resolves its functionality as a museum and provides new installations, not altering the museum but respecting its historic value.

[EN] The Mayan city of Tikal, which reached its greatest splendour in the 7th and 8th centuries of our era, was declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1979 by UNESCO and a Universal Monument in 1986.
