Virtual reconstruction of Saraqustä

Abstract

[ES] El texto describe la recreación virtual 3D de la ciudad islámica de Saraqustä (actual Zaragoza). Para su realización se han tomado como referencia los vestigios existentes, las hipótesis de diversos autores especializados y los modelos contemporáneos de otras ciudades. Las fases de trabajo incluyen un delineado completo en planta, un modelado 3D con la ayuda de herramientas paramétricas y un trabajo final de ambientación y renderizado. Entre los elementos a destacar se encuentran el trazado de la muralla islámica, el palacio de la Aljafería, la mezquita aljama, otras mezquitas menores y alminares y algunos edificios civiles. El trabajo establece una posible metodología para abordar la reconstrucción de ciudades históricas cuando existe una escasa documentación gráfica, y debe recurrirse a modelos comparativos e hipótesis científicamente fundamentadas.

[EN] This text describes the virtual 3D recreation of the Islamic city of Saraqustä (modern-day Zaragoza) which was created using the references of existing remains, hypotheses of various subject experts, as well as contemporary models of other cities. The different stages include a complete draft of the layout, 3D modelling with the help of parametric tools, and a final stage of ambience and rendering. Some of the elements that must be highlighted are the path and geometry of the Islamic wall, the Aljafería palace, the Aljama mosque, other smaller mosques and minarets, and some civil buildings. The project establishes a possible methodology for tackling the reconstruction of historical cities in the absence of ample graphical documentation, with the necessary use of comparative models and scientifically-based hypotheses.
