Analysis of the Impact of Wind and Solar Generation on Wholesale Electricity Prices in the Spanish Electricity Market

[ES] Este trabajo analiza el impacto de la generación eólica y solar fotovoltaica sobre los precios mayoristas de electricidad en el mercado eléctrico español. El estudio se basa en datos horarios de demanda eléctrica, generación renovable y precios spot del mercado. Se evaluará la relación entre penetración renovable y precios eléctricos mediante análisis estadístico y modelos de regresión, prestando especial atención al merit-order effect, al fenómeno de canibalización de precios y a la aparición de la duck curve. Además, se estudiará cómo la creciente integración de energías renovables ha modificado la dinámica del mercado eléctrico español.

[EN] This thesis analyses the impact of wind and solar photovoltaic generation on wholesale electricity prices in the Spanish electricity market. The study is based on hourly data for electricity demand, renewable generation, and spot market prices. The relationship between renewable penetration and electricity prices will be evaluated through statistical analysis and regression models, with particular attention to the merit-order effect, price cannibalisation, and the emergence of the duck curve. In addition, the study will examine how the increasing integration of renewable energy sources has modified the dynamics of the Spanish electricity market.
