Resumen

Trabajo Fin de Grado en modalidad Intercambios Académicos : Hochschule Mainz - International. University of Applied Sciences (Germany).

[EN] The aim of this Bachelor's thesis is to apply well established methods of improvement of energy efficiency and environmental performance in order to reduce the carbon footprint caused by the construction and daily use of the Fachhochschule Mainz Hohlstrasse building, in the University of Applied Sciences of Mainz. The structure of the work is as follows. First, information about how much carbon emissions are produced directly and indirectly from construction works every year has been gathered. Then, the different ways in which every building can cause carbon emissions to the atmosphere has been analyzed, measuring the carbon contained in the structure of the building, the carbon emitted during its construction and because of its normal use. The carbon emitted by transport and by the energy that makes possible the daily working of the building has also been included. Once the carbon produced by the building is known, the possible measures to reduce and offset it have been shown and analyzed and some concrete solutions adopted in different industries have been studied as a reference for this research. Finally, all these solutions are presented as a package of remedies to offset the carbon footprint of the building.
