dc.description.abstract[EN] In the past companies used the mass production system without focusing on the costumers likes and demands. As a result of this customers didn’t see their product expectations fulfilled. There was a clear lack of value in products. Fortunately these working methods have changed. Now the companies carry out their New Product Development according to the customer specifications as well as the market demand. Thereby the customer becomes one of the main factors in the products design. To face the NPD companies use different models that have been developed by different enterprises. Point-Based Engineering, Concurrent Engineering, Stage-Gate Models and Set- Based Concurrent Engineering Models are only some of the options that exist for developing a new product within a company. Applying these methods will provide an enhancement for the product in terms of value, organization between departments, communication and to sum up, operating efficiency. However these methodologies may not be completely useful if the manager of a company is not able to optimize the design of a product. This thesis is designed as a Lean Game that has two main targets. The first one is showing the players how a product design from scratch will result in a disastrous outcome in terms of costs and delivery. The other is to avoid the above situation through the implementation of a platform system, which will change the approach that players have of what a product design consists of. The players will see the enormous advantages provided by having a product Line Synergy as well as the big amount of money they can save if they apply it in a correct way with companies. The game is structured in two rounds, in the first one; players have to design the products (provided by costumers orders) from scratch. In the second round; players also have to design the products by using the platforms methodology. After each round, there will be a “feedback round“where the data of each round will be yielded and analysed. The players will be able to see how the implementing of a platform system improves the data in terms of time and profits between two rounds. As a conclusion of the game, players will be more aware of the application of a platform system, its concepts and how this model allow the companies to deliver their products faster, cheaper and with a higher quality.en_EN
