[EN] Valencia s historic center, the Ciutat Vella, is composed of five neighborhoods: La Seu, La Xerea, El Carme, El Mercat and Sant Francesc. The neighborhood of Velluters located between El Carme and El Mercat, has been recognized on occasions asindependent for its identity and history so rooted in the tradition of textile trade. Our intervention area is located in the Plaça de la Botxa, adjacent to three buildings of diƯerent historical relevance: the Convento de la Encarnación, to the west; the Palacio de Balmes, to the north and a cloistered convent, to the east. These, however, have little direct relationship with the space to be intervened. Currently, the site could be read as a transitional space, acting as a link between the scales of the neighborhood and the city, with a large road, such as Guillem de Castro, as a separator. My proposal is born with the ambition to generate urban fabric, to integrate into the fabric to eventually become a landmark within the neighborhood. On the one hand, it aims to create a public space, open and wide, in contrast to the narrow streets that surround it. On the other hand, it wants to unify and relate the already built, while recovering the block represented in the Valencian cartography of the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries. For this purpose, my project is conceived as a floating blanket that covers the public space. It is an oil stain that expands with total freedom until it knows its own limits. On the ground floor it was decided to build the minimum and essential: three structural cores, solid, on which the sheet will support, for the rest to be destined to a large public square covered and illuminated by natural light. The street thus becomes an extension of the workspace and vice versa. Finally, on the first floor, this light sheet appears, perforated by a series of holes, from which emerges a projecting body that tries to reach the cornice height of the neighboring buildings -the auditorium-. Around this volume is articulated the program of the Civic and Cultural Center, which will include a library, archive, exhibition halls, workshops and other spaces for civic gatherings.
