Drawing haunting in space: critical approaches to systemic amnesia in Spanish southern shores through art-base practice

Abstract

[ES] Utilizando el marco teórico de la necroplítica, la espectralidad y la memoria encarnada, este artículo propone una investigación de práctica artística contra el silencio de las instituciones españolas en relación a las miles de muertes de migrantes en el cruce del Mediterráneo, la frontera más mortal del mundo. Estableciendo que la Amnesia y el Silencio Forzados son herramientas de control social, este artículo establece el potencial de la práctica artística como testigo contra-hegemónico y estrategia de generación de narrativas críticas en la Frontera Sur.

[EN] Using the critical frame of necropolitics, haunting and incarnated memory, this article proposes an art-based practice approach to Spanish institutions lack of reaction to thousands of migrants drowning on the Southern Mediterranean Sea crossing, the deathliest border in the world. Understanding Forced Amnesia as a tool of societal control, it connects the silence over Spanish War crimes to that of the Mediterranean migrant deaths. Through the daily drawing of on site found objects, this article sheds light to the potential of art-based practices as counter-hegemonic witness of the Southern Mediterranean Border crossing.
