Drawings of Juan de Madrazo’s architectural offer to design the first Evangelical Spanish Church in 1880

Abstract

[EN] In the 19th century, there arises on the part of the Anglican Community the need to execute a church of new plant, after happening for different rents of places. Juan de Madrazo prestigious member of the Anglican church, receives the order of realizing a representative church concerning 1880. In this article there are analyzed the unpublished drawings of the original sketch realized by Madrazo for the accomplishment of the first Evangelical Spanish Church, located in Madrid. And after the death of this one, Enrique Repulles y Segarra will take again this project, which will study meticulously Madrazo’s offer. These drawings allow to analyze Madrazo’s rigorous study on the programmatical needs, and the way of projecting the building, as well as to know in major measure the architect as draftsman and his creative evolution from different preliminary sketches that will reflect the needs of program.

[ES] En el siglo XIX, surge por parte de la Comunidad Anglicana la necesidad de ejecutar una iglesia de nueva planta, tras pasar por distintos alquileres de locales. Juan de Madrazo miembro prestigioso de la iglesia anglicana, recibe el encargo de realizar una iglesia representativa en torno a 1880. En este artículo se analizan los dibujos inéditos del boceto original realizado por Madrazo para la realización de la primera Iglesia Evangélica Española, ubicada en Madrid. Y tras la muerte de éste, retomará este proyecto Enrique Repullés y Segarra, el cuál estudiará meticulosamente la propuesta de Madrazo. Estos dibujos permiten analizar el riguroso estudio de Madrazo sobre las necesidades programáticas, y la forma de proyectar el edificio, así como conocer en mayor medida al arquitecto como dibujante y su evolución creativa a partir de distintos esbozos preliminares que reflejarán las necesidades de programa.
