[EN] At present, there is an interest in refrigeration appliances in order to deal with electricity supply-demand mismatches met by power systems. As wind energy has become more prominent as a source of electricity in Ireland, these supply-demand mismatches have become more frequent. Refrigeration appliances in residential and commercial environments can utilize electrical-thermal load shifting to store o -peak electricity in the form of thermal energy or to shave peak electricity demand. The EnergyPlus building performance simulation software o ers the possibility to model and control a wide variety of electrical appliances, including large-scale refrigeration systems suitable for commercial applications. A previous project involved creating a set of residential building archetype models, representative of most of the Irish national dwelling stock. The residential refrigeration appliances were integrated as stand-alone sources of internal heat gains, and their electrical load were estimated using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo model based on time-of-use survey activity data.
