In the growing development framework of smart power supply networks, known
as Smart Grids, Ampere Energy has been postulated as a major player. For the
study and development of a research project related to Virtual Power Plants, a
simulation platform of these systems is necessary.
In this proposal for the Master’s Final Project (TFM ), it is intended to fully
address the development of the same. From the identification of the subsystems
to the validation of the resulting data, through the modeling and implementation
of these. The development will be done in LabVIEW, a development software of
National Instruments, reference in the world of the automation industry.
The core of the TFM will be a simulation algorithm of the behavior of photovoltaic
installations with accumulation with a high resolution. The vast majority
of alternatives are focused on hourly or quarter-hourly simulations, however, in
this TFM tools will be developed to work in the order of seconds. This supposes
different associated problems.
In the first place, it will be necessary to pre-elaborate the consumption and
photovoltaic production data since it is extremely difficult to have this type of data
with such a high granularity. Mainly, these data are added to hourly resolutions
since they are the most relevant data for the billing of electric power in Spain. The
TFM includes the study and development of a tool that will solve this problem.
Subsequently, the identification and modeling of the subsystems that make up
a photovoltaic installation with accumulation must be addressed. For example,
the behavior of the photovoltaic panels, the inverter or inverters available to the
installation or the accumulation battery. At this point, it will be necessary to
know in detail the special operation of the Ampere Energy systems for the correct
identification of the transfer functions of these elements.
The following notable problem associated with the high resolution of the simulator
is the management and handling of large amounts of data. In order to achieve
acceptable simulation speeds, special attention must be paid to the programming
methodology.
Finally, it will be necessary to create a user interface for easy later use. In this
interface, the input data that the simulator must receive and the results of interest
for the user and specific study will be selected.
The methodology that will be used is based on a first phase of specifications
analysis, algorithm separation in subsystems, global development and verification
of partial systems. For these last two stages, a SCRUM methodology based on
short-term Sprints will be used to review them and ensure that the specifications
of the platform adapt to the needs of Smart Grid projects to which it is intended.
The project is addressed due to the lack of similar alternatives in the market
for the correct investigation in the emerging world of Smart Grids based on the
internet of things (IoT) and the sustainability of the growing energy demand, as
well as the rejection to traditional energy sources to ensure the durability of the
current quality of life in the future.
