Identificación de buenas prácticas ambientales en turismo: la gestión de residuos en el hotel Dynastic de Benidorm

Abstract

[ES] Benidorm, según datos del Instituto Nacional de Estadística para el año 2017, es el cuarto municipio de España con mayor afluencia turística a lo largo del año, después de Madrid, Barcelona y San Bartolomé de Tirajana en Gran Canaria. Según las encuestas y los datos recopilados en 2017 por el I.N.E del Ayuntamiento local, Benidorm ha acumulado 16,4 millones de pernoctaciones durante ese mismo año. Aproximadamente 11,5 millones de pernoctaciones hoteleras son las que reciben sus más de 130 hoteles, hostales y pensiones, 2,8 millones pernoctaron en apartamentos y 2,1 millones en campings. Según datos recopilados de HOSBEC, en el año 2017 la ocupación hotelera osciló entre un 71% en temporada baja y un 93% en temporada alta. Esta afluencia de turistas hace que el volumen de residuos que se generan en la ciudad sea realmente alto. Este destino dispone, según datos de 2017 del portal del ciudadano del ayuntamiento de Benidorm, de 765 contenedores de reciclado para el uso particular de la población local y de los turistas, si bien no se dispone de información sobre las medidas ambientales en relación al reciclaje que hacen los establecimientos hoteleros. Por ello, este trabajo se centrará, por un lado, en analizar las medidas adoptadas en materia de residuos que tienen los hoteles de Benidorm, para lo cual se realizará una identificación y valoración de las medidas ambientales que se realizan en dichos hoteles. La metodología a utilizar será realizar una investigación cualitativa mediante una encuesta que constará en una reunión con un alto cargo de cada hotel y mediante la cual se tomarán datos y se analizarán posteriormente para conocer que practicas ambientales realiza cada hotel. Por otro lado, se estudiará el Hotel Dynastic de Benidorm en cuanto a las medidas que ostentan para la gestión y disminución de residuos. Tras el estudio del hotel y conociendo la información de los hoteles investigados, se aplicaran los métodos idóneos para mejorar la calidad y el bienestar del hotel en materia de sostenibilidad, entre las cuales destaca el promover la importancia del reciclaje en los huéspedes. Se eligió este hotel porque allí se realizó una investigación en materia de alojamiento turístico y reunía las cualidades idóneas para una correcta gestión de los residuos. Gracias a esta investigación y a las medidas que se adoptarán se esperan obtener estos resultados: lograr una productiva reducción de y conseguir reciclar todo material producido en el hotel Dynastic, tanto por parte de los empleados como de los huéspedes.

[EN] Benidorm, according to Statistics National Institute of 2017, is the fourth town of Spain with the highest tourist influx throughout the year, after Madrid, Barcelona and San Bartolomé de Tirajana in Gran Canarias. According the surveys and data collected in 2017 by the S.N.I. of the local council, Benidorm has accumulated 16,4 million overnight stays in the same year. Approximately 11,5 million hotel overnight stays are received by more than 130 hotels, hostels and pensions, 2,8 million overnight stays in apartments and 2,1 million in campsites. According to HOSBEC (2017), that same year the hotel occupancy tends to range between 71% in low season to 93% in high season. This influx of tourists makes the volume of waste generated is really high. This destination has of 765 recycling containers for the particular use of the local population and tourists, according to data (2017) of the citizen of the Benidorm council, although there isn’t information available on environmental measures in relation to recycling that realized the hotel establishments. Therefore, this work will focus, on the one hand, on analyzing the measures adopted in terms of waste that have the Benidorm Hotels. Therefore, it will be an identification and assessment of the environmental measures carried out in these hotels. The methodology to be used is the qualitative one due to the focus of the topic and data processing, using as a tool a survey to know the number of hotels that follow these environmental practices and, if applicable, to know how they apply them. It is based on the premise that every tourist establishment must be aware of recycling to help the sustainable development of the destination and, therefore, the planet. On the other hand, the practical case of the Dynastic Hotel will be studied in terms of the measures adopted for the management and reduction of waste that highlight for promoting awareness about the importance of recycling in the guests. This hotel was chosen because an investigation was carried out in the field of tourist accommodation and it had the right qualities for a correct application in terms of recycling and waste reduction. Thanks to this research, it is expected to obtain a large amount of waste reduction in the Dynastic hotel and get recycled all material that is discarded in the hotel.
