[EN] Faced with circumstances which give rise to doubts as to the future continuity of an undertaking (Principle of a going concern), the auditor has the responsibility to assess the uncertainty about the future continuity of the company for a future period of at least one year and to report accordingly in the audit report.
Uncertainties about the future continuity of the company is undoubtedly one of the most problematic aspects in auditing and accounting. On the one hand, the regulatory framework offers little guidance for developing this judgement, that is, when a company goes from being in the right situation to having doubts about its future continuity that it should disclose, but it could still uphold the principle of a going concern as the basis for drawing up its annual accounts. At the same time, when it moves from the previous situation to being unable to maintain the company principle in operation as a basis for drawing up its annual accounts, using an alternative framework. However, for the latter case, more accounting guidance has been issued.
On the other hand, auditors, while maintaining a position of independence, are often reluctant to reflect in the audit report uncertainties about the future continuity of the company, for fear that this event will trigger the company to see the financial support of its creditors withdrawn, this phenomenon is known as "self-fulfilling prophecy".
This final grade work focuses on analysing the time at which the auditor reflects in the report an uncertainty due to the principle of operating company (either in an emphasis paragraph or in a substantive paragraph of the opinion, as the case may be).
This analysis will be carried out in the companies listed on the Spanish continuous market using different methods, such as a content analysis of the audit reports by selecting a cross section, as well as a logistic regression model that will try to determine which variables are determinative of the auditor¿s first reflection in the audit report of uncertainty due to the principle of a going concern, as well as a case study.
