Trampantojos de hormigón. Simultaneidad ilimitada, memoria y acontecimiento arquitectónico

Abstract

[EN] The contemporary, exposed-concrete buildings of OMA’s Qatar National Library and the library of the Rogelio Salmona Cultural Center of the University of Caldas would seem to take the form of the spatial illusion devices that were developed instrumentally during the 17th century in Europe. This reveals how today, surreptitiously, these buildings simultaneously inhabit other times, processes and architectures, which have increased in sophistication and been reinvented by means of bold spatial and structural layouts, encouraging visitors to move around while they pass through perspective manipulations of scale and urban impact. Just as these projects are authentic, in-situ trompe l’oeils that can be navigated and inhabited, so the associations, equivalences and contrasts that they generate with other architectures make them mnemonic, architectural trompe-l’oeils. This brings to light contemporary architectural values, replacing the literal with the literary, and by doing so entering and breaking the ‘core’ of the ‘rules’ of the architectures used as inspiration, thus updating them for the present day. Similarly, the importance of the material used in the buildings –exposed concrete–, and the materiality of the elements that comprise them is clear, inasmuch as they bring reality and illusion together in a structure that allows the architectural event to be transformed into matter, where those who occupy these architectures feel both enveloped by reality and liberated from it at the same time. Architecture becomes a real and ideal vision of the impossible.

[ES] Los edificios contemporáneos en hormigón visto, de la Biblioteca Nacional de Qatar de OMA y la biblioteca del Centro Cultural Universitario Rogelio Salmona, parecieran formarse como los dispositivos de ilusión espacial, que se desarrollaron instrumentalmente en Europa durante el siglo XVII, con esto, desvelando cómo subrepticiamente en la contemporaneidad habitan de manera simultánea, otros tiempos, procedimientos y arquitecturas, que se han sofisticado y reinventado mediante intrépidas configuraciones espaciales y estructurales, que animan al visitante a moverse, mientras transita por manipulaciones perspectivas de escala y afectación urbana. Estos proyectos así como son un trampantojo real –in situ– que se puede recorrer y habitar, también son trampantojos mnemónicos de arquitecturas, por las asociaciones, equivalencias y contrastes que generan con otras arquitecturas: con esto, revelan valores arquitectónicos contemporáneos, remplazando lo literal por lo literario, con ello entrando y trasgrediendo el ‘interior’ de las ‘reglas’ de las arquitecturas emuladas, y así actualizándolas en la contemporaneidad. De igual manera, destacan la importancia del material –hormigón visto-, y la materialidad de los elementos que los constituyen, ya que hacen que realidad e ilusión, se constituyen en la estructura que permite trasformar el acontecimiento arquitectónico en materia, y donde quien habita dichas arquitecturas se siente a la vez envuelto por la realidad y liberado de esta. La arquitectura se vuelve una visión real e ideal de lo imposible.
