[EN] This End of Degree Work is a plastic art and investigation project which revisits the portrait concept through its application to a group with mental functional diversity. The aim of the artistic practice was to portray these people as complete as possible, looking forward to understand in a better way who is that Other which often has no face for us.
In order to its realization, various phases of approach are adressed according to the artist-subject visions: You, Me and Us. You contains five portraits with my first percepction of the group, using the painting to physically represent them. Me are self-portraits of each of them, an expression of their self-conception that allows us to understand them a little better. Finally, Us collects audovisual documentation and completes the project with more personal artworks which narrate our common experience.
Due to the contrast between the elements we get a whole portrait which exemplifies the subjectivity and limitations of artistic and social representations. This work aims to break the prejudices of the idea of ¿they¿, getting closer to social excluded groups and establishing visibility and communication mechanisms through art.
