Implementación y evaluación de MPEG-DASH bajo las características de redes móviles

Abstract

[ES] En los últimos años la forma de consumir recursos multimedia está cambiando considerablemente, hemos pasado de estar enganchados a la televisión a ser unos adictos de internet y nuestro teléfono móvil. Y es que las posibilidades que nos ofrecen los smartphones y el resto de dispositivos inteligentes son muy superiores a lo que nos da la televisión tradicional. Hoy en día no queremos estar esperando todo el día a que se emita el nuevo capítulo de nuestra serie favorita o esa película que llevamos tanto tiempo esperando. Queremos verlo ya, sin que se corte y en la mejor calidad posible. Además, también queremos poder ver contenido en vivo allá donde estemos como si nos encontrásemos en el sofá de nuestra casa. Ahí es donde entra el protocolo MPEGDASH y su aplicación en el streaming de contenidos multimedia. En este trabajo se ha hecho un recorrido por la evolución de las redes móviles en la historia reciente, analizado sus características y, posteriormente, se ha implementado una solución que nos permita evaluar el funcionamiento de MPEG-DASH y las prestaciones que nos puede ofrecer en función del ancho de banda disponible.

[EN] In recent years the way to consume multimedia resources is changing considerably, we have gone from being hooked to television to be addicted to the internet and our mobile phone. And the possibilities offered by smartphones and other smart devices are far superior to what traditional television gives us. Today we do not want to be waiting all day for the new chapter of our favorite series or that movie that we have been waiting for so long. We want to see it now, without being cut and in the best possible quality. In addition, we also want to be able to watch live content wherever we are as if we were on the sofa in our house. That's where the MPEG-DASH protocol and its application in streaming multimedia content comes in. In this work we have made a journey through the evolution of mobile networks in recent history, analyzed their characteristics and, subsequently, a solution has been implemented that allows us to evaluate the operation of MPEG-DASH and the benefits it can offer us in Bandwidth function available.
