Constantes y contrastes entre la ciudad eslava y la latina. De Kyiv a Valencia

Abstract

[ES] Nuestro objetivo más preciado es que las ciudades construyan una identidad propia, que refleje el acuerdo con la forma del territorio en el que se insertan y con la cultura que las crea. Para entender mejor las claves de la forma urbana puede recurrirse al contraste entre realidades tan diversas como una ciudad de fundación romana: Valencia y otra de tradición eslava: Kyiv. En las diferencias podremos descubrir qué factores individualizan cada ciudad; en las constantes qué efectos son comunes a todas. Interesan a este estudio las relaciones de la ciudad con el territorio y la incorporación de su paisaje a la identidad y definición de la propia ciudad, como expresión de unas relaciones económicas y funcionales. Así también parece necesario establecer los paralelismos en la construcción de las ciudades analizadas y las características morfológicas de los agregados urbanos con los que han ido cimentando su crecimiento. Este repaso al perfil de las realidades urbanas de estas ciudades debe culminar con una síntesis que descubra cuales son los espacios problema y las cuestiones que exigen una intervención urbanística para su mejora. No se trata solo de descubrir las similitudes y diferencias entre ciudades, sino que seamos capaces de vislumbrar las estrategias urbanas de futuro. Un repaso amplio que nos permita imaginar los paisajes que construirán la ciudad que queremos.

[EN] Our most precious goal is for cities to build their own identity, reflecting the agreement with the form of the territory in which they are inserted and with the culture that creates them. For a better understanding of the key aspects of the urban form one can resort to the contrast between such diverse backgrounds as a city of Roman Foundation: Valencia and another of Slavic tradition: Kyiv. On the distinctions we may uncover the factors that identify each city; in the constants - which effects are common to all. This study is interested in the relations of the city with the territory and the incorporation of its landscape to the identity and definition of the city itself, as an expression of economic and functional relations. There is therefore a need to establish parallels in the construction of the cities analyzed and the morphological characteristics of the urban aggregates with which they would reinforce their growth. This profile review of the urban realities of these cities must culminate in a synthesis that discovers which are the problem spaces and the issues that require urban intervention to improve them. It is not just a matter of discovering similarities and differences between cities, but of being able to glimpse urban strategies for the future. A comprehensive overview that allows us to imagine the landscapes that will build the city we want.
