From the Bauhaus to the Fab Lab. The digital revolution of learning by doing

Abstract

[EN] Digital fabrication has revolutionized the pedagogical model of the experimental workshops that have been in force since the Bauhaus, leading to the worldwide network of Fab Lab connected laboratories. The emergence of CAD/CAM, the personal computer and the internethave influenced the methodology of project-based learning implemented in architecture schools. The maker movement updates the concept of learning by doing, bringing invention closer to education and questioningthe regulated teaching of traditional technical schools due to the rise of knowledge shared on the internet through digital learning platforms. Online on-demand training and offshoring personal production are the foundation of education in the times of the fourth industrial revolution that fosters synergies between previously hermetic disciplines and is moving towards a more sustainable intelligent manufacturing.

[ES] La fabricación digital ha revolucionado el modelo pedagógico de los talleres experimentales vigentes desde la Bauhaus derivando en la red mundial de laboratorios conectados Fab Lab. La aparición del CAD/CAM, el ordenador personal e internet han influido en la metodología del aprendizaje basado en proyectos implementado en las escuelas de arquitectura. El movimiento maker actualiza el concepto de aprender haciendo, acercando la invención a la educación y cuestionando la enseñanza reglada de las escuelas técnicas tradicionales por el auge del conocimiento compartido en internet a través de las plataformas digitales de aprendizaje. La formación a la carta en línea y la producción personal deslocalizada son la base de la educación en los tiempos de la cuarta revolución industrial que fomenta las sinergias entre disciplinas, antes herméticas, y se dirige hacia una fabricación inteligente y más sostenible.
