Development of an educational App for the City of Antwerp

Abstract

[ES] Big City Life Antwerp es un proyecto que ha sido llevado a cabo un grupo interdisciplinar e intercultural de estudiantes. El objetivo de este proyecto es contribuir a ayudar al sistema educativo en el ámbito de la integración social. Uno de los problemas en el sector educativo en el sector de Amberes es la diversidad cultural. En las aulas de los colegios hay mucha diversidad y a los profesores les cuesta lidiar con este problema, ya que es complicado lidiar con un aula en la que se hablan hasta más de 3 idiomas diferentes. En este proyecto hemos creado un prototipo para una App con el objetivo de implantarse en un futuro en las universidades de Amberes, concretamente, para los estudiantes de magisterio. Mediante el uso de esta aplicación, los estudiantes aprenderán de forma dinámica y divertida sobre los aspectos culturales de la ciudad, así como los lugares importantes relacionados con la educación, donde pueden encontrar ayuda en su futuro como profesores. En esta aplicación los estudiantes podrán aprender a través de diferentes tareas a completar. Tras completar las tareas, los estudiantes aprenderán sobre la historia de diferentes lugares emblemáticos, museos y organizaciones relevantes.

[EN] We are Big City Life in Antwerp, an interdisciplinary group of international students that put all their knowledge and abilities together, aiming to solve or reduce the existing prob-lem in schools of Antwerp. We have created a prototype for an application to be used in universities of education. By using this application, students will learn in a dynamic and fun way about the cultural aspects of the city, as well as important places related to education where they can find help in case they need it in their future as teachers. This project has been carried out with the support of Onderwijstalent, an organisation directly involved in the field of education in the city of Antwerp. With their support and advice, we have been able to design an application that is adapted as much as possible to the existing needs. In this application, the students in the teacher training program will be able to learn about the city through different assignments that they have to complete. The purpose of the assignments is to provide information about multiculturalism and the potential of the city of Antwerp as a place to teach. After completing the assignments, the students are going to know the story of different emblematic places, museums and relevant organisations.
