[EN] Hybrid Power Plants (HPPs) are based on the combination of different energy sources
such as wind and solar. With the constant decrease of cost of renewable energy sources,
HPPs are proving to be a promising energy technology. The benefit of this emergent solution
resides in the increase in controllability and predictability they provide, along with
the greater capacity factor, the increase in availability and the possibility to contribute
in the supply of ancillary services. It is also interesting to integrate some energy storage
technology to further enhance the benefits and reduce even more the characteristic fluctuations
of Renewable energy sources (RES). Moreover, with regard to the plant owner, this
alternative allows them to develop economies of scope in terms of capital and operational
costs, land usage, electrical infrastructure, among others.
The present project aims to design the optimal electrical collection system for a HPP
which integrates onshore wind, solar and batteries. The purpose is to save costs while
increasing the electrical infrastructure utilization. The first approach will be to consider
an AC coupled HPP topology and later, study and analyse an scenario with DC connection.
For the base case, the wind turbines will be connected together, independently from
the photovoltaic panels and batteries which will likewise be linked between each other.
The three connection points will be then coupled to a unique common point to the grid.
Sharing the electrical infrastructure can lead to significant savings during the initial investment
phase, at the expense of the oversizing of some components such as transformers
and cables.
For this purpose, an optimization model will be built by defining the objective function
and the constraints to the problem. Later, this model will be implemented in Python
and solved using the BC solver in CPLEX. Several combinations and connection possibilities
will be studied and performed in order to find the best optimal solution. Finally,
for the different HPP layouts, a sensitivity analysis will be carried out.
