[EN] The resistance of beta titanium alloys to oxidation at high temperatures has been studied and
new beta titanium alloys have been developed in the field of materials engineering whose
oxidation resistance study is still limited.
For this reason, it is intended in this project to design a simple experiment that allows evaluating
the oxidation behaviour of the Ti-35Nb-6Mo alloy. This behaviour will be evaluated by means
of exposure to high temperatures and different exposure times, with the intention of simulating
working conditions in posible future applications.
The tests arecarried out in a furnace in which the samples were subjected to 600, 700 and 800ºC.
After a certain oxidation time, the samples were removed from the furnace and weighed. The
behaviour of the oxidation curves was evaluated through the mass gain per unit area and, finally,
the surface characterisation of the samples was carried out through the study of roughness,
wáter contact angle and scanning electron microscopy.
The results show that the exposure temperature is the most determinant factor in the resistance
to oxidation and that it significantly influences the size of the crystals and the thickness of the
oxide layer that is formed. The increase in temperature is directly related to the roughness of
the samples and this in turn to the wettability.
