[EN] The water balance expresses the balance between the input and output of water in a territory. Doing this modeling helps to understand the hydrological cycle at the local level. By generating water balance data between different times, we can in turn analyze the effects of climate change on the amount of water available by varying variables of this type used in modeling, providing researchers the ability to quantify availability and moisture demand in a significant way. Due to the current environmental situation, it is important to generate a set of data and water balance layers from different dates of hydrologically important areas of Puerto Rico, such as the watersheds that feed the El Yunque Forest for later analysis, the improvement in resolution of similar data available, as well as the generation of a script that can model this process in an automated and systematic way using current software. To carry out the water balance of watersheds at the pixel level, we start from a series of data and other calculated variables. A water record is generated for each pixel with the calculation between precipitation inputs and outputs such as evapotranspiration. A single automated code is developed that calculates a complete annual water balance for each pixel within a digital elevation model and data layers. A relative index of surface moisture demand is presented for hydrographic divisions and the temporal comparison between results changing the climatological data for each year. A positive tendency to water deficit is found annually in the study area. Changes in climate patterns over the past 32 years have gradually affected water storage in the El Yunque Forest watersheds. The code that automates the calculations and the annual result in the database is attached.
