Residencia de estudiantes en el barrio de El Carmen de Valencia: un lugar de encuentro y de generación de actividad urbana.

Abstract

[ES] El proyecto se encuentra situado en una parcela límite entre el barrio de El Carmen y el antiguo cauce del rio Turia. Esta condición hace que sea un emplazamiento clave debido a su carácter de elemento de borde, ya que genera la necesidad de resolver una respuesta tanto a la parte edificada del barrio de El Carmen como a la magnitud del espacio libre del parque del antiguo cauce.

La parcela tiene la problemática además de suponer una barrera que dificulta la conexión entre el casco antiguo y la parte norte de la ciudad, debido a sus grandes dimensiones. Es por esto por lo que el proyecto parte, por un lado, de regenerar esta conexión siendo un elemento permeable que se pueda recorrer públicamente, mientras que por otro lado trata de generar un nodo urbano que suponga un espacio de encuentro para el barrio y la ciudad.

El proyecto a desarrollar en la parcela tiene como uso principal el de residencia universitaria, pero pretende constituir un edificio híbrido con múltiples funciones que resuelvan las necesidades existentes actualmente en esta parte de la ciudad. Para ello, el proyecto se resuelve mediante dos piezas que generan un espacio central sobre el que se vuelca la vida de la residencia. En planta baja estas piezas son permeables, de manera que los espacios del proyecto se ofrecen a la ciudad, con usos públicos, mientras que se va adquiriendo un carácter más privado conforme se asciende, quedando dedicadas las últimas plantas únicamente al uso residencial. Este uso residencial, por su parte, pretende generar unos modelos habitacionales flexibles, que se adapten a multitud de situaciones, desde los modos de habitar más comunitarios a los más autónomos.

[EN] The project is located on a border plot between El Carmen neighbourhood and the old Turia riverbed. This condition makes it a key location due to its character as a border element, as it generates the need to resolve a response to both the built-up part of El Carmen neighbourhood and the magnitude of the free space of the park of the old riverbed.

The plot also has the problem of being a barrier that hinders the connection between the old town and the northern part of the city, due to its large dimensions. This is why the project is based, on the one hand, on regenerating this connection by being a permeable element that can be walked through publicly, while on the other hand it tries to generate an urban node that will be a meeting point for the neighbourhood and the city.

The main use of the project to be developed on the plot is as a university residence, but it aims to constitute a hybrid building with multiple functions that meet the needs currently existing in this part of the city. To this end, the project is resolved by means of two pieces that generate a central space on which the life of the residence is based. On the ground floor these pieces are permeable, so that the spaces of the project are offered to the city, with public uses, while they acquire a more private character as one ascends, with the top floors being dedicated solely to residential use. This residential use, in turn, seeks to generate flexible housing models that adapt to a multitude of situations, from the most communal to the most autonomous ways of living.
