[EN] The ageing of the population, together with the growing individualistic pleasure of human beings, has led to the fracturing of intergenerational links and of the traditional structures of mutual help: those in which the parents looked after the children and, later, it was the children who were responsible for looking after the parents.
The project Intergenerational Housing in Benimámet is the development of a set of dwellings designed for the coexistence of old and young people in an old village in the Valencian huerta which, over the years, has become a neighbourhood in a city that turns its back on it.
The intervention takes place on a plot to the east of the historic centre of Benimámet, a plot framed in an urban masterplan that seeks to boost the stagnant growth of the district through sustainability with the premise of the eco-neighbourhood. The project restores the lost intergenerational ties through a communal and social architecture that invites mutual contribution, interaction between different ages and two-way care, within the framework of an efficient bioclimatic design and with an eye always on the needs of the inhabitants not only of the planned dwellings but of the entire neighbourhood.
