[EN] This study has been developed with the aim of analyzing the evolution of the
aerosols in Karlsruhe’s atmosphere. In particular, the effects of heavy construction
work inside the city as a consequence of the big project “Die Kombilösung”, which
consist of constructing an underground, are an object to be studied. Also, other factors
such as traffic and industry are important to take into account when evaluating the
atmospheric pollution.
From 09/August/2013 to 07/March/2014 samples were taken weekly to analyze
the aerosol mass concentration. Furthermore, during the period from
04/November/2013 to 01/December/2013 samples were taken daily in order to study
the evolution of the PM concentration in more detail. This period was analyzed for
trace element concentration, Black Carbon content, and aerosol mass concentration. In
order to explain the results statistical methods have been used. Also, air mass
trajectories, meteorological parameters or data of other studies were useful to
understand the results.
The results show a low aerosol concentration period at the beginning of the
sampling (end of summer) and medium – high variations during winter. Furthermore,
during daily sampling, the results show variations due to anthropogenic sources;
nevertheless these are below the current WHO limits. Also there are contributions from
geogenic sources or elements closely related to traffic pollution.
