Convento de San Onofre en Xátiva. Estudio iconográfico y estado de conservación

Abstract

[EN] This Project aims to study the wall paints on the cupola of the chapel Tercera Orden Fanciscana in Saint Onofre Covent located in Xativa (Spain). A complete documentation about the artwork is afforded taking account of the historic and artistic context; historical information about the Orden Franciscana and its derived brands, Alcantarinos and Tercera Orden Seglar is compilated because both are involved in the creation of this artwork. Furthermore, a historic-artistic study of the time the artwork was conceived and performed is carried out because of the interest in determining the influence they exerted in the artwork. The core of the study is devoted to the description of the artwork and its iconographic analysis. This will be carried out by dividing the pictorial work in different groups; from which an individual analysis of the figures represented in the paint will be done setting up a brief hagiography of them, in order to relate it to the attributes representing them in the cupola wall paints. Finally, one focus on the material aspects of the artwork, one shall present a description of the pictorial techniques used in this work. In a second stage, one shall qualify the damage of the artwork attending to the type of aggressions undergone by the wall paint along the years, building up a damage map allowing to appreciate its distribution and the extension of the damaged zones.

[ES] El presente proyecto tiene como objeto el estudio de las pintura murales de la la cúpula de la capilla de la Tercera Orden Franciscana del convento de San Onofre el Nuevo en Xàtiva. Se pretende hacer una documentación de la obra lo más completa posible y para ello se ofrece una contextualización de tipo histórico artístico, recopilando documentación histórica sobre la Orden Franciscana y sus ramificaciones, alcantarinos y la Tercera Orden Seglar, que están implicadas en la creación de esta obra. También se lleva a cabo un estudio del contexto histórico-artístico de la época y las influencias que se pueden apreciar en la obra. La parte central del estudio está dedicada a la descripción de la obra y su análisis iconográfico, este se llevará a cabo dividiendo la obra pictórica en diferentes grupos en los que se irán analizando individualmente los personajes representados haciendo un breve resumen de su hagiografía y relacionándolos con los atributos con los que fueron representados en la cúpula. La tercera parte del estudio se dedica al aspecto material de la obra, en ella se hará una descripción de la técnica pictórica empleada y se hará una evaluación de los daños que sufre clasificándolos por las diferentes causas que los provocan y mostrando mapas de daños donde se puede apreciar la superficie que abarcan.
