Optimisation of room acoustics in an anthroposophic church

Abstract

The purpose of this work is to analyze the acoustic proprieties of the hall of the “Nicodemuskirche”, an anthroposophist church of the Christian community of Herdecke (Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany). This is made following two different theories, the room acoustic statistical theory, thru the empirical form; and the geometrical theory, thru software simulation program EASE. It are analyzed the intelligibility proprieties of the hall, by means of different standardized parameters, and the reverberation times under various configurations. With the aim of improve the acoustic proprieties of the hall, it are analyzed the absorber proprieties of a particular porous material, which can be used for cover the pews of the audience areas. The absorption coefficient of this material is calculated, following the indications of the corresponding international standard.
