LA FIGURA DE LA FEMME FATALE CLÁSICA EN LA PINTURA DE LOS SIGLOS XIX Y XX

Abstract

EN The purpose of this Project was to create a series of paintings that showed several realities at the same time, all of them related to the world of Arts. On the one hand, all the paintings had to be portraits of C lassical femme fatales ( either Greek , Christian, Jew or simply historic ) present on a recurrent basis in the paintings of the second half of the 19 th c entury. On the other hand, the works should have been painted following the styles of outstanding 20 th c entury artists. The project resulted in five portraits entitled Circe, Cleopatra, Salomé, Sirena, and Lilith , respectively. Circe shows the fin - de - siècle pictorial style that originates from Realism and that fosters it eve n with the turn of the century; Cleopatra imitates the restrained portraits of the early 20 th century hi gh - classes; Salomé copies Polish painter Tamara de Lempicka‘s Art Déco style; Sirena emulates the well - known pin - up illustrations from the forties, and, Lilith, for its part, tries to do homage to American painter Alex Katz. However, this is not a purely formal project. Each of the works has a literary and cultural background and brings a concept that has remained in society’s imagination since the Antiquity to light: the issue of the femme fatale. Even so, the aim of this project is not to perpetuate this misogynistic view towards women, but to show its impact in Arts, and, specially, in 19th century paintings. The current document describes the whole creative process and provides the information needed to the successful analysis and understanding of the works of arT.

El objetivo de este proyecto ha sido el de realizar una serie de cuadros que reflejen varias realidades al mismo tiempo, todas relacionadas con el mundo del Arte. Por una parte, todas las obras debían ser retratos de mujeres fatales de tradición clásica (ya sea griega como cristiana, judía o histórica) presentes de forma recurrente en las pinturas de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Por otra parte , las obras debían realizarse siguiendo los estilos de relevantes pintores y artistas del siglo XX. El resultado son cinco retratos titulados Circe , Cleopatra , Salomé , Sirena y Lilith , respectivamente. Circe refleja el estilo pic tórico finisecular que nace del Realismo y que lo mantiene vigente con el cambio de siglo ; Cleopatra imita los sobrios retratos de la clase alta europea de principios del sig lo XX; Salomé reproduce el estilo Art Déco de la pintora polaca Tamara de Lempicka; Sirena emula las famosas ilustraciones de pin - ups de los años 40 y Lilith , por su parte, pretende rendir homenaje al pintor estadounidense Alex Katz. Sin embargo, este no es un proyecto únicamente formal. Cada una de las obras posee un trasfondo literario y cultural y pone de manifiesto un concepto presente en el imaginario popular de la sociedad desde la Antigüedad: el de la femme fatale . No obstante, la intención de este proyecto no es la de perpetuar una visión misógina de la mujer, sino la de poner de manifiesto su repercusión en el arte y, en especial, en la pintura del siglo XIX. El presente documento describe todo el proceso de creación artística y proporciona la in formación necesaria para el análisis y comprensión de las obras realizadas
