[EN] This Masters' Final Thesis approaches the study of the Documental Centres as documental
sources for Heritage Conservation, in this particular case the Architectonic, focusing on the
photographic database of the
Angra do Heroísmo
Museum
(MAH) as the research source.
Therefore, we make a reflection about photography since its conception, covering its apparition
and development in Portugal, as well as its relation with the area of Conservation and
Restoration of material heritage. We will a
nalyse photography in two views: as an object to be
conserved and as a source of information.
Though it may seem an excessively broad subject, since it is an area of interdisciplinary
convergence, this work intends to contribute with reflections about the
photographic specimens
as photographic documental sources in the field of Conservation and Restoration, both in
general and in the particular case of the Architecture of the city of
Angra do Heroísmo.
However mostly photographs that are in institutions an
d MAH have not been specifically
produced with the aim of serving in the research, represent an invaluable treasure as sources
for historiography and consequently for the Conservation and Restoration of Heritage in
architecture being that should take advan
tage of the vast wealth of photographic images.
So photographic and refers to the document or set of documents which support documentation
is photography and any of its technical aspects: negative, positive, slide, etc. And it is carried
out when a selecti
on, analysis and treatment of photography is performed, so that it can be
used later by researchers, users and professionals from different areas

[ES] En este trabajo se hace una reflexión sobre la fotografía desde su concepción, pasando por su aparición y su desarrollo en Portugal, así como por su relación con la Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales. Abordamos la fotografía en dos vertientes: como objeto a conservar y como fuente de información.
La segunda parte del trabajo aborda el estudio de los centros documentales como fuentes para la conservación, centrándonos en los fondos fotográficos del Museu de Angra do Heroísmo (MAH) como fuente de investigación.
