[EN] This Master
thesis focuses on the development and
implementation of a Comsol
-
based methodology for the acoustic
modeling of diesel particulate filters (DPF) used in the exhaust
system of internal combustion engines.
First, a bibliography review of the acoustic one

models and the associated matrix representation is performed.
Also, a literature review is carried out related to the
characterization of ducts and monoliths. The finite element
method is applied to solve the wave equation in air regions
connect
ed by a particulate filter. The ability of the finite element
method to add ress arbitrary geometries with general conditions
is the reason for which this method is applied in the acoustic
modeling of particulate filters in commercial automotive
engines. A
s a first approximation, and with a view to compute
the acoustic behavior of a particulate
filter, a model in which the
ceramic monolith is replaced by its lumped acoustic resistance
isused.
A number of computations are carried out and the corresponding
r
esults are analyzed to reach the appropriate conclusions.
