La corta de Tablada (1909-26): la obra que transformó el Puerto de Sevilla

Abstract

[EN] The opening of the Tablada Cut, also known as the Alfonso XIII Canal (1909-1926), was one of the most significant hydraulic engineering projects undertaken on the Guadalquivir River and marked a turning point in the transformation of the Port of Seville during the first third of the 20th century. While the evolution of Seville's docks has been addressed in general studies on Guadalquivir navigation and the city's urban history, the construction of this particular project has received less attention from the perspective of the history of construction and port engineering. The main objective of this work is to analyze the design and construction of this cut as a key element in the modernization process of the Port of Seville, now that one hundred years have passed since its inauguration. Specifically, the study examines the technical and economic context of the improvement plan promoted by Luis Moliní, the construction characteristics of the project, and its impact on the spatial reorganization of the port facilities. The study is based on the analysis of primary sources preserved in the Historical Archive of the Port Authority of Seville. [ES] La apertura de la corta de Tablada o canal de Alfonso XIII (1909-1926) constituyó una de las intervenciones hidráulicas más importantes realizadas en el río Guadalquivir y marcó un punto de inflexión en la transformación del Puerto de Sevilla durante el primer tercio del siglo xx. Aunque la evolución de los muelles hispalenses ha sido tratada en estudios generales sobre la navegación del Guadalquivir y la historia urbana de la ciudad, la ejecución de esta obra ha recibido menor atención desde la perspectiva de la historia de la construcción y de la ingeniería portuaria. El objetivo principal de este trabajo es analizar el proyecto y la ejecución de dicha corta como pieza clave del proceso de modernización del Puerto de Sevilla, ahora que se cumplen cien años desde su inauguración. De manera específica, se examinan el contexto técnico y económico del plan de mejoras impulsado por Luis Moliní, las características constructivas de la obra y su impacto en la reorganización espacial de las instalaciones portuarias. El estudio se basa en el análisis de fuentes primarias conservadas en el Archivo Histórico de la Autoridad Portuaria de Sevilla.
