Compacidades ahuecadas(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2015-12-29) García-Escudero, Daniel; Bardí i Milà, Berta[EN] The SOL89 office, formed by María González and Juanjo López de la Cruz, is where they have been carrying out their professional activity since the year 2000, once they had completed their studies at the School of Architecture of the University of Seville. Since then, they combined their professional practice with teaching and research, undertaken with intensity and rigor, and regarding a few substantial constants. Either by means of new buildings or through interventions in existing ones, they delve into matters concerning the relationship between public and private spaces -intermediate areas-, thick envelopes, or the ability to use the section in order to characterise space and light in architecture. However, the article focuses on two early works:the Andalusian Institute of Biotechnology in Seville (2001-2007) and the Exhibition and Congress Centre of Ayamonte (2004-2014). Both projects share formal and material similarities, such as precast concrete enclosures, although they respond to different project strategies that could be summarised as the following actions “to stack” and “to sculpt”.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , 20 años de Europan en España(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2015-12-29) Carmona Belda, Marita[EN] Europan was launched in Spain, and now is one of the most important generators of habitation ideas in Europe. The article takes two aspects as its starting point: the first aspect is based on the theoretical approaches of the competition since it began in 1988, and the second on the social housing constructions in Spain. Ultimately, after studying the theory and practice behind Europan, the goal is to offer an approximation to the lifestyles in Spain during the turn of century, and through its contributions after more than 20 years of existence.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Nuevas vías que esta tomando la profesión(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2015-12-29) Boamistura, Estudio[EN] On August 6th an article entitled “Art for humanizing Madrid” was published in the newspaper El País, mentioning a number of firms, collectives, offices, who posed precisely new courses of action to practice architecture. All these expressions have a common background, the awareness that the work of the architect goes beyond constructing buildings and that a set of buildings does not make city. What motivates us is to create city and for this, not only are necessary some physical constructions. The public space -as a frame for work, experimentation and commitment- has replaced the collective housing and social housing where today, for obvious reasons, there are not any opportunities for development.
