IN-RED 2022: VIII Congreso de Innovación Educativa y Docencia en Red

Organizado conjuntamente por el Vicerrectorado de Planificación, Oferta Académica y Transformación Digital y el Vicerrectorado de Profesorado y Ordenación Académica, la Universitat Politècnica de València convoca el Congreso de Innovación Educativa y Docencia en Red IN-RED 2022 (#INRED2022), que tendrá lugar en la ciudad de VALENCIA los días 6, 7 y 8 de julio de 2022.

El confinamiento que hemos vivido como consecuencia de la pandemia COVID-19, nos ha permitido APRENDER distintas LECCIONES que es el momento de COMPARTIR. Así, bajo el lema “Lecciones aprendidas: ideas compartidas”, volvemos con más fuerza para poner en común las adaptaciones realizadas y construir un rico bagaje de las dinámicas, recursos, evaluaciones, métodos… empleados que nos permita seguir avanzando en la mejora de la educación superior.

    Aprendizaje basado en proyectos: una experiencia en el análisis de estrategias y solución de problemas de desarrollo local

    [EN] This work has been developed within the framework of the Development and Sustainability project promoted by the Community Studies Center of the Central University of Las Villas, Cuba. Incorporates four municipalities of the Villa Clara province in a project that brings together a group of students from ten university careers, in the analysis of local development strategies and the proposal of solutions to problems of the municipality, based on the foundations established by Project-Based Learning (PBL) as an active methodology. The project was developed in two phases to advance from the university to the municipalities. The results perceived in the first phase are associated with new learning through familiarization workshops, tours of strategic sectors of the province and municipalities, as well as work in multidisciplinary teams for each municipality. For the second phase, the results obtained in the Ranchuelo municipality are presented, where after the analysis of the defined strategy, four degree projects were identified and developed as a contribution to the solution of local development problems. The students value the experience as positive in its contribution to the development of teamwork, critical thinking and communication skills.

    Generación de un curso en línea masivo y abierto (MOOC) como resultado de una acción Marie Skłodowska-Curie

    [EN] The results of European projects are often presented in lengthy deliverables, making it difficult for interested parties to understand the methodologies followed and the results obtained. In recent years, the use of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) as an educational tool has increased significantly, in some ways necessitated by the restrictions experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper shows the guidelines for the generation of a MOOC as a result of a European Marie Skłodowska-Curie project in which different institutions from four European countries have participated. Course enrolment data show that the creation of a MOOC course with appropriate dissemination has attracted dozens of interested people from different parts of the world.

    [EN] More and more universities are banking on the production of digital contents to support online or blended learning in higher education. Over the last years, the MLLP research group has been working closely with the UPV’s ASIC media services in order to enrich educational multimedia resources through the application of natural language processing technologies including automatic speech recognition, machine translation and text-tospeech. In this work we present the steps that are being followed for the comprehensive translation of these materials, specifically through (semi-)automatic dubbing by making use of state-of-the-art speaker-adaptive text-to-speech technologies.

    Integración de la discapacidad en asignaturas relacionadas con la agricultura urbana a través de un proyecto Aprendizaje-Servicio: “Colabora A LA PAR”

    [EN] Through the Service-Learning project "Colabora A LA PAR" disability has been brought closer to the students of the ETSI Agronómica, Alimentaria y de Biosistemas, carrying out different activities both inside and outside the classroom: seminars, curricular practices, End of Degree, design of gardening equipment adapted to physical disabilities and visits to inclusive school gardens. The objective is to normalize disability among students and generate social awareness for the integration of people with disabilities in the work environment of the agronomic area. This project has been carried out in collaboration with the A LA PAR Foundation, which has welcomed Agricultural Engineering students to carry out curricular internships, it will need a collaborative environment between engineering students, who learn in a practical way to manage orchards , and the Foundation's students and professionals with disabilities. On the other hand, the facilities of the Montecarmelo orchard have served to carry out Final Degree Projects where improvements to the facilities (orchard and greenhouses) have been proposed. The results have been very positive, they discovered great interest among engineering students, who have helped in all the proposed activities.

    Análisis del estado de ánimo del alumnado en diferentes grados de Ciencias de la Salud

    [EN] The mood of students has an impact on the teaching-learning process by influencing motivation, memory and the ability to develop cognitive resources; therefore, mental health should be considered in the educational process. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the state of mind of our students, as well as to know the student diversity and their emotional maturity. The results derived could be the starting point for designing teaching methodologies that are better suited to each stage of their education according to their state of mind. To this end, we have resorted to the analysis of the Profile of Mood States (POMS) in undergraduate students of Health Sciences, from three Spanish universities. We analysed the results by degree and gender, finding that the degrees in Medicine and Pharmacy showed a worse mood compared to those in Nursing and Physiotherapy. The evolution was similar in men and women.

    Incorporación de la metodología ABP a la asignatura de Tecnología del medio ambiente del Grado en Ingeniería Química en el campus de Alcoy

    [EN] In the subject of Environmental Technology of the Degree in Chemical Engineering at the UPV on the Alcoy campus, a modification is incorporated in the methodology followed until now. The classes were based on the participatory lecture with resolution of questions and problems in the classroom, and the subsequent evaluation of theoretical tests through tests and open response activities at the end of each didactic unit. This methodology can lead to the student not feeling fully motivated, thus favoring superficial learning of the subject. To ensure that their learning is deep, it is proposed to add in the 2021-2022 academic year a task for each didactic unit in which the student is the protagonist of his own learning and in which he can develop his critical thinking about the problem posed. Once the tasks were carried out by the students, it was observed that a high percentage of students had managed to solve the problems by linking different theoretical concepts explained in class, so the objective of promoting deep learning had been achieved.

    El uso de Mentimeter para el diseño de actividades interactivas gamificadas en el aprendizaje por descubrimiento

    [EN] The aim of this innovation activity is to contribute to the digital transition of university teaching by using a learning platform based on the Mentimeter game, through discovery learning. The innovation has been applied to a compulsory subject in the final year of the Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage. The entire theory part of the subject has been built from 44 interactive activities gamified in Mentimeter, which have guided students in the construction and discovery of the contents. The results obtained show that game-based discovery learning contributes to the student's proactive attitude, facilitating the assimilation of complex concepts.

    Metodologías para el aprendizaje a distancia en educación universitaria: experiencias y resultados en la docencia de contabilidad

    [EN] Global health crisis has drastically changed teaching-learning processes at all educational levels. In the Spanish educational system this has meant a shift from face-to-face to remote learning. In the light of this situation, the learning process needs to develop new activities and roles for students and teachers. Both must acquire new skills that affect concepts and attitudes about the teaching and learning processes, within the framework of traditional training projects. Remote learning implies collaborative work between students and teachers. Teachers need to choose the best methods to achieve the learning objectives, in the framework of the relevant academic profile and characteristics of skills training. In addition, they must take into account the structural and organisational conditions required to perform these activities (remote learning, the use of new technologies, etc.).This paper describes the author’s experience in designing learning methodologies to teach a social science subject, Accounting, on the Business Administration degree at Universitad Politècnica de València, in a lockdown context. First, we describe the methodology designed to adapt the course from face-to-face teaching to online classes. Then, we analyse the main challenges and difficulties that arose. Finally, we present the assessment results and the conclusions obtained from comparing them to outcomes from previous academic years.

    Desarrollo de una app de evaluación para casos clínicos en un contexto de cooperación internacional

    [EN] Case-based learning (CBL) is a methodology that involves the presentation of a well-designed clinical problem, through a case of a real patient. This system allows the student to acquire autonomy, manage and synthesize relevant information to implement individualized solutions for each case. Based on this, in the Occupational Therapy Degree we have developed an international cooperation project to collaborate with disability care centers in southern countries. We have created an assessment app that allows you to collect relevant patient data, receive it immediately from anywhere in the world. Teachers and students value them and propose treatments, interacting in real time with care centers or with the patients themselves. The students have very positively valued this learning system that brings them closer from the first years to the reality of professional performance and that the transversality in the study by involving several teaching subjects.

    Propuesta de aplicación del software QGIS® en la asignatura: “Técnicas de reintegración pictórica en Bienes Culturales”, mediante la Docencia Inversa y el Aprendizaje Basado en Problemas

    [EN] With the continuous evolution of technology integrated into the field of art restoration, the aim is to increase the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for university training in the field of cultural heritage. This software allows the quantitative analysis of losses of pictorial layers in two-dimensional works. Although this georeferencing technique was originally intended for terrain characterisation, it has gradually been applied to the design of research projects and their application to practical problems in restoration. The need to update and incorporate GIS into the contents of the subjects related to chromatic reintegration in the Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) is thus emphasised. However, the teaching of new software is not easy and requires additional didactic instruments and pedagogical methods that ensure the understanding and consolidation of the use of these complementary tools. This paper presents the application of the free software GIS QGIS® in the subject: "Techniques of pictorial reintegration in Cultural Heritage", from a teaching innovation based on a hybrid between Flipped Classroom (DI) and Problem Based Learning (PBL). The aim of this methodology is for students to acquire instrumental, systemic and interpersonal skills, while at the same time learning the use and application of QGIS® for the characterisation of artworks.

    Hear4All: Herramienta de traducción y generación de lenguaje de signos en tiempo real para el aula mediante tecnologías disruptivas

    [EN] Traditionally, text-to-speech has helped people overcome decoding difficulties with learning or hearing disabilities. Thanks to technological advances, consuming content in which learners use text and audio is more common. However, sign language allows an improvement in the transfer of knowledge and the integration of students with functional diversity. This tool allows the simultaneous translation into sign language of the teacher or speaker and dynamizes the learning of this by the classmates, improving the possibilities of socialization and exchange. In order to test the functionality of the application, a pilot test was carried out with the students of the Teaching Degree in the Special Educational Needs specialty in five face-to-face sessions. Among the contents that these students must acquire is the knowledge of sign language, valuing the application as very useful for learning and classroom use of this tool. It can also be used to promote communication between professionals in the workplace. In conclusion, we can highlight creating a tool for simultaneous translation into sign language applicable to the educational and socio-labor fields.

    ¿Hay diferencias en las calificaciones de Fisiología utilizando metodología presencial versus híbrida como consecuencia de la pandemia?

    [EN] As consequence of the restrictions on attendance in classrooms due to the pandemic, teaching has been adapted to avoid the limitations imposed by the capacity. In the 20/21 academic year, we have implemented the Hyflex methodology in the class-room combining the faceto-face teaching and remote teaching. To measure the impact of this new methodology in the subject of Physiology II of the Medicine degree, we have analyzed the student´s scores obtained in the theoretical exam comparing both courses, 20/21 hybrid course and 18/19 face-to-face course. The results show that these new teaching technologies make it easier to have an inmersive experience while the students are connected online, as demonstrated by the maintenance of the average grade. However, we consider that the students with technical or personal troubles require a greater effort to study at distance, therefore the attendance in the classroom is a substantial improvement to have succeed.

    “Mindful eating and role-playing” en la docencia de nutrición clínica

    [EN] The student of the Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, acquires theoretical knowledge and develops critical skills in the whole subjects conforming the Degree. In the last period of their studies, during the practicum, they improve communication, listening, empathy, and open-minded psychonutritional skills which will be a valuable key for their future professional progress. All these skills give the student the tools to grow in responsibility, to learn values, and to carry a wealth of experience to face the world of work with determination and maturity. In this context, the academic syllabus of the Nutrition subject includes the application of theoretical nutritional knowledge for the resolution of clinical cases implementing a theoretical approach. Here it is presented how the theoretical case activities in the nutrition practice sessions were adapted through ROLE-PLAYING including MINDFUL EATING guidelines. This practice had the intention of working on decisionmaking, communication, listening, and nutritional evaluation management skills, from a more real perspective as the student implements it with their colleagues and in a clinical nutrition environment. For this purpose, students were divided into groups on which one had the role of the nutritionist and the other as a patient, according to the guidelines files prepared for this by professors of the subject. It was necessary to previously assay on the different roles assigned for each group and to elaborate recording videos which served as a model of the practice to follow. The activity was carried out at the Center for Interdisciplinary Simulation of Health of the University of Valencia, recently created. In this sense, the role of the professor was to facilitate the student the knowledge and improvement as clinical nutritionist skills in three aspects: to collect and manage clinical information; to analyze and assess the data resulting from listening and managing the nutritional evaluation and to propose nutritional advice. The activity practice was highly accepted and evaluated by the students as it was revealed with the great involvement in working and implementing theoretical knowledge and communication skills.

    Diseño de una experiencia basada en el aprendizaje colaborativo basado en retos dentro del contexto de la educación superior

    [EN] The Challenge Based Learning (CBL), is a pedagogical approach that actively involves the student in a real, significant problem situation related to their environment, which implies defining a challenge and implementing a solution for it. This paper represents the design and implementation of a collaborative work experience aimed at higher education students of the International Trade subject within the Master's Degree in Business Management (MBA). It is an innovative experience based on the understanding of a trade operation: elaboration of an internationalization strategy with economic and financial viability that tries to respond to a challenge posed by a real company. The paper concludes with a curricular proposal for collaborative and experiential learning through a challenge and its evaluation.

    [EN] The COVID-19 pandemics greatly affected teaching methods and tools. In the last two years the teaching method switched from face-to-face to online or hybrid and later on, to face-to-face again. This paper presents the results of the experience carried out in the lab-sessions of Materials Science subject within the Degree in Engineering in Industrial Design and Product Development, taught at the Higher Technical School of Design Engineering of the Universitat politècnica de València. The aim of this work is to develop an audio-visual teaching tool to be used during the course, to aid students understand the experimental procedures and the use of laboratory equipment in order to increase their academic performance. For this purpose, the obligatory didactic videos employed to undertake the laboratory session during the pandemics, when the students participated remotely, were processed and employed in a shorter version as an optional TIC tool during the last academic course. The student satisfaction towards the utility of didactic videos was measured by using an individual questionnaire. A comparison between the academic performance during pre- and post-pandemics was performed, as well.

    Experiencia de aprendizaje basado en proyectos para estimular el aprendizaje significativo y la implicación de estudiantes de ingeniería

    [EN] In university environments, it is increasingly necessary for students to work on different types of competencies that help them to propose novel solutions. This is the context of the present work. The goal is to implement an activity to promote student involvement, while incorporating work on transversal competences and sustainable development objectives. The learning activity has been carried out in the Graphic Techniques in Biomedical Engineering subject. Students have designed, using 3D modeling tools, a game for the cognitive rehabilitation of acquired brain injury patients. Their work was accompanied by a short video showing its operation and a written report. Some works were selected by the students for 3D printing. With the activity, it has been possible to evaluate and work on specific competences of the subject, transversal competences such as design and project and effective communication, as well as SDGs related to health and sustainable production. The students have evaluated the experience and found it positive, both in terms of overall satisfaction and motivation, as well as for allowing them to apply the theoretical knowledge worked on during the subject in a practical context.

    Puntos clave del tema en minivídeos educativos

    [EN] The creation of educational mini-videos is one of the strategies that helps the student to synthesize and organize the information, since it encourages its correct filing. The students of the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences (CAFD) convey to the teaching staff the difficulty of assimilating the main ideas of the topics in the “Motor Skills” subject. Likewise, teaching in Secondary Education is one of the most demanded professional opportunities in this degree. Consequently, the main objective is to strengthen the key points of each theoretical topic of the subject through the realization, by groups, of mini-videos and the possible future employment of teaching through its presentation in a Secondary Education center. The videos had a maximum duration of 5 minutes and were published in private virtual environments for being watched by students and teachers. The results were obtained from the evaluations of the mini-videos by CAFD teachers and Secondary students. The contents of the subject were strengthened in CAFD students, although Secondary students were more critical than teachers, demonstrating a lack of teaching skills.

    Cómics en el aula: narrativa gráfica para potenciar el aprendizaje activo en la enseñanza de la fisiología en el Grado en Nutrición Humana y Dietética

    [EN] The use of graphic material as support in the teaching of basic disciplines in Health Sciences constitutes a key factor in the teaching-learning process. Traditionally said graphic material have consisted of illustrations and diagrams, although in recent years the availability of audiovisual multimedia materials has boosted the use of these resources in the classroom. In the present work, we propose the use of activities that combine the potential of images with the typical narrative characteristic of comic-books, thus enhancing the narrative potential, the emotional impact and the ability to stimulate critical thinking inherent in said format. For this, we use two specific works for different tutoring activities in subjects from different courses of the Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and we evaluate the students' perception of their usefulness as academic resources, on the motivation to review concepts of the subjects, as well as on the characteristics of the comics used as teaching materials. The preliminary results obtained show a positive reception by students and suggest an important potential of comics to work on concepts and generate relevant debates in the context of the Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

    [EN] As in other areas, sustainability has gained increasing attention in the field of social work education. Nevertheless, various voices consider that perspectives of sustainability are needed that are more radical than those inspired exclusively by the 2030 Agenda. In this context, the research and innovationundertaken explores the specific potential and implications of ethics of care for adopting a transformative perspective of sustainability. To this end, a framework is proposed based on key ideas on the ethics of care, which can be useful in order to explore its implications in social work education. Then, it explores the case of social work studies in the University of València (Spain). Specifically, the research addresses how ethics of care is or can be adopted in the supervision of the final end-of-degree projects or dissertations (Trabajos Final de Grado). This exploration draws on the perspectives of experts and of teachers from the Social Work Department. The results show that the implications of adopting ethics of care in social work teaching may relate with very different aspects, from political commitment and the construction of identities to relations with peers, teachers, the community and the natural environment.

    Dinámica de roles en el Máster de Profesorado

    [EN] This project is contextualized in the subject Design of Learning Activities for Informatics and Technology, specifically in the area of technology. This subject is taught in the second semester of the Master's in Teacher for Mandatory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language, Arts and Sports Education. The project consists in the implementation of the “role playing” methodology: the students are divided in groups of two people, each group has two roles which are performed independently: teacher-group and student-group. As a teacher-group, each group must design and teach a Didactic Unit (DU) of the subject of Technology at the level of Secondary Education, which must include theoretical contents and a Project-Based Learning activity, which must consist in the design and manufacture of a functional prototype in the technology workshop. As a student-group, each group must simulate the knowledge of the DU level, and they will perform the role of the students of a teacher-group in its respective DU. This project intends to promote intrinsic motivation of the students and the acquisition of soft skills needed for the teaching profession.
