William Yang is one of the foremost Australian professionals of recent decades as both a social documentary photographer and a performance artist. A pioneer in portraying the gay environment in the southern country since the 1970s, he was a direct witness to the impact that AIDS caused in the homosexual community, to which he belonged, documenting it in a heartbreaking way. His works share the commitment with many other professionals around the world who, through photography, fought against the stigma towards HIV patients, creating a genre within this artistic discipline during the hardest years of the epidemic.
