El mal querer de Rosalía: análisis estético, audiovisual e interpretativo

Abstract

[ES] En 2018 la cantante Rosalía publicó el álbum que la ha llevado a la fama mundial, titulado El mal querer. Este disco ha resultado ser un producto interesante más allá de lo puramente musical y comercial, destacando en la estética, elementos audiovisuales y simbología empleada.

Destaca un factor decisivo en la creación del álbum El mal querer, que es la clara inspiración que ha tomado la cantante Rosalía de Flamenca, una obra literaria occitana, de autoría anónima y que data del siglo XII. No obstante, pese a ser una novela medieval, Rosalía ha visto la actualidad de la historia y de la heroína, y ha sabido llevarla al mundo de hoy en día, un mundo en el que las relaciones interpersonales, la toxicidad que puede haber en estas y la figura de la mujer no han cambiado tanto. De esta forma, la historia del medievo ha servido para dar estructura al álbum y conformar un hilo narrativo que se desarrolla de manera fragmentaria desde la primera canción hasta la última. Asimismo, la acción contada se lleva a cabo también en el ámbito audiovisual, en el que la fusión de elementos del pasado y la cultura actual se hace efectiva y visible.

El objetivo del presente Trabajo Fin de Grado es realizar una interpretación del álbum El mal querer, tanto desde su nivel literario y narrativo, atendiendo a qué se cuenta y de qué manera se cuenta, como en el audiovisual. El análisis audiovisual se realiza a partir de la estética de los vídeos musicales que complementan ciertas canciones del disco.

[EN] The Spanish artist Rosalía launched in 2018 the album that made her famous around the globe, named El mal querer, which directly translates into The Bad Loving. This record has proven to be an interesting product beyond comercial and musical matters, standing out for the aesthetics, audiovisual elements and symbology used.

A really remarkable fact that was key for the album s creation was the clear inspiration that Rosalía took from Flamenca, an Occitan literary work with unknown author that was written in the Middle Ages. However, although being a medieval novel, Rosalía saw the timelessness in the story and its heroine and she brought it to our modern world, a world where interpersonal relationships, the toxicity that can lie behind them and the female presence have not changed that much. Thus, this story from the medieval period was really powerful to structure the record and create a narrative thread that unfolds in a fragmentary manner, from the first song to the very last. Likewise, the told action is also brought to the audiovisual field, where the mix between elements form the past and contemporary culture become visible and effective.

The aim of this research is to make an interpretation of the album El mal querer, both from its literary and narrative level, taking into account what is told and how it is told, and in the audiovisual. The audiovisual analysis is made from the aesthetics of the music videos that complement certain songs on the album.
