Abstract

[EN] The concept of typology was originally stated by Quatremère de Quincy and implicitly developed by Durand, but its validity would be challenged at the onset of modernity. An interested and reductionist reading of the concept of typology and its appropriation by the historicist postmodernism trend eventually ended up in its discredit. Modern architecture may also respond to a typological analysis, especially if topological aspects are considered. Recently, architects such as Eisenman or FOA have classified their projects according to genealogies sharing topological affinities, demonstrating the validity of the typological approach.

[ES] El concepto de tipo, originariamente enunciado por Quatremère, fue desarrollado implícitamente por Durand, aunque su vigencia sería cuestionada con el inicio de la modernidad. La lectura reduccionista e interesada del concepto de tipología y su apropiación por parte del postmodernismo historicista terminaron por desprestigiar su pertinencia. La arquitectura moderna también puede responder a un análisis tipológico considerando aspectos topológicos. Arquitectos como Eisenman o F.O.A. han clasificado sus proyectos en genealogías a propósito de coincidencias topológicas, demostrando la vigencia del enfoque tipológico. La noción de tipología se clarifica y enriquece una vez que se establece la analogía entre estructura formal y forma topológica.
