New trends in video broadcasting and social media: a study of mobile apps for live video streaming

Abstract

The current trend in video broadcasting is boosting the emergence of streaming tools. These include, for instance, a series of mobile applications streaming tools designed to deliver live videos that have also integrated the social part. Thus, one can transmit a live video in just some steps from anywhere with a smartphone the only requirement being to have an Internet connection with enough bandwidth. And it can also be shared in real time. This research aims to identify the different applications available, as well as to establish its user profile. Finally, the most relevant applications will be analysed in relation to their scope of use in social media.

La tendencia actual de retransmitir en directo acontecimientos de última hora en tiempo real está potenciando la aparición de herramientas de streaming. Existen, por ejemplo, multitud de aplicaciones para móviles que sirven para retransmitir video en directo que también han integrado la parte social. Así, se puede transmitir un video en directo, en apenas unos pocos pasos desde cualquier lugar con un smartphone con el único requisito de contar con una conexión a Internet con un ancho de banda suficiente. Y se puede compartir también en tiempo real. Esta investigación tiene por objetivo identificar las distintas aplicaciones disponibles de este tipo de tecnología, así como establecer cuál es perfil de usuario. Finalmente se analizarán aquellas más relevantes en relación con su ámbito de uso en los social media.
