| es_ES |
dc.description.abstract | The new phenomenon of crowdfunding allows founders of cultural ventures such as films to fund their efforts by drawing relatively small contribution from a large pool of contributors. The difficulty of accessing traditional forms of film financing has spurred the growth of crowdfunding for film projects both in the U.S. and Spain. However, the fiscal and legal framework that sustains crowdfunding in the U.S. and the imminent enactment of the JOBS Act makes it more favorable to filmmakers than the framework in Spain. Research and the literature associated suggest that the determinants of successful crowdfunding are the size and quality of the founder's social networks and the "social seals of approval" the project receives on social media networks. Furthermore, signals that indicate quality and preparedness to funders are also determinants of successful crowdfunding. A Best Practices guide for successful crowdfunding has been developed based on these findings. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of successful crowdfunding film projects in Spain and the U.S., as well as the case study Spanish Exile, provides further insight on the essential role of social media in successful crowdfunding for independent film projects. | es_ES |
