Permanent URI for this collection

[EN] We try to show the structure and the secret order that encloses the composition of art. Before, landscapes and prominent figures were painted, today the artist interprets his internal world.Art and what ruled it changed last century. To study art in his internal functions is to look for simple answers to the problems that it us raises, but, in a more suitable way, to understand the royal sense of its offers, his questions, we will never exhaust all the levels that the work contains and proposes to our perception. This is positive, since to exhaust the mystery of art would mean, to take sense and its raison d’être from him.
[EN] The project methodologies that emerged when design was becoming established as a discipline are no longer valid in the current context. We now live in a much more complex society and solving the problems arising from it requires new working methods. Nowadays it is very difficult to suggest design solutions to specific problems. The different social problems arise from uncertain situations, as uncertain and malleable as the society we live in. As a result, as designers, we must look through the lens of the researcher, approaching society to obtain data and suggest possible solutions to real problems.
[EN] Let’s go back to the 40’s, North America, record players, Jazz… illustration. An album cover’s analysis, the cover’s art in vinyl format. Such designs were part of the object itself, turning it into an open canvas for the creativity of designers and artists. There are some aspects in this subject that are well linked to the world of illustration; from the object’s packaging, whose format and characteristics suffered changes according to sociocultural and technological needs, to the generated images, in which we can focus in some aspects like the processes and the techniques used, the typography or the final arts. Traveling back in time, we discover how the image had greater impact on the musical context during the 40’s and 50’s, leading to some new stylistic forms and to a wide iconography generated for the most part by the work of the artist. In conclusion, we could consider this period as the starting point for the illustration of covers, with outstanding names like Alex Steinweiss, Jim Flora or David Stone Martin heading a long list of artists whose mission was based on illustrating Swing, Jazz and those new ways of making music that stirred up Northamerican’s culture from the old New Orleans.

[EN] The project proposes an approach to urban “secondary” characters, both for their modest crafts, such as the apparent monotony of their lives do not stand for the society of “success”. People like: masons, mechanics, prostitutes, students, unemployed, street performers and others, who have an almost “ghostly” presence but despite not being part of the “media universe” they constantly redefine the identity of cities. So the graphic novel arises: Urban Ghosts from an approach to the iconography and stereotypes of Bogota and from that facilitate the recreation of characters that meet the need of story, the count, recount, spice and prominence these people and therefore build a graphic piece enriched from experimentation in storytelling, illustration and design.

[EN] There are two ways of comprehending and making engraving. The first vision understands it as the development of a skill or of a technology, which usefulness is based on being able to reproduce pre designed or pre conceived images. The second meaning however, defines engraving as an artistic language, as an authentic syntax of the form, where the own expressive conditions that arise from the divergent thought are generated. Creative engraving exposes certain physical and sensory qualities, which refers us to a complex drawing process, opened to the personal experiences of the matter being transformed, using our own hands and our own body to explore, to know.

- PublicationLa condición digital de la imagen gráfica(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2015-11-25) Meléndez Cardona, Ronald Fernando; Tortosa Cuesta, Rubén; Departamento de Dibujo; Facultad de Bellas Artes[EN] Digital technology has certainly given new creative possibilities to the graphic image, mainly as a result of the electronic and virtual condition of its medium. If we fully consider digital as technology, we can say that every image produced or mediated through computer is essentially digital. However, if we consider the digital as expression, we may observe that not all the images produced or mediated through computer express “digitality”. Based on the analysis of the “digital” and “graphic” concepts an argument will be developed that proposes an understanding of an alleged digital nature of the graphic image.
- PublicationEl proceso de ideación en la creación tipográfica: la conceptualización de la letra a través del trazo//Thinking-out process in typographic creation: conceptualization of letterforms through the stroke(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2015-11-25) Pérez Mena, María[EN] As symbolic forms, letterforms can be the expression of an epoch, a place, an identity, a feeling... that we infer as shared meanings into a community, through their use along the time. This communicative ability gives them the power of telling apart from saying, rising as the most powerful tool for visual communication. From this premise, this paper will address how ideas arise in a typographic project from the active observation of the type designer, who see analogies and makes connections between his/her environment and the basis of typographic architecture thinking through drawing.

- PublicationConsideraciones para el diseño de Apps para bebés(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2015-11-25) Morante Bonet, Miriam; Rodríguez, Nuria; Costa, María; Departamento de Dibujo; Escuela Politécnica Superior de Alcoy[EN] In recent years there has been an explosion of applications targeted at children, even babies. As our research shows, 50% of Spanish families are using Apps with their children who are under two years old. Despite being a very vulnerable target, there is no specific documentation for developers to create Apps that are appropriate for babies. For this reason, we conducted an investigation from the point of view of pedagogy, child psychology and design, to create a guide with recommendations for the development of applications for babies. The guide will support the design of new Apps for very young children so as to minimize possible adverse effects while enhancing benefits. The guide with recommendations for designing Apps for babies covers a wide range of information from formats and aesthetics to appropriate recreational, educational and interactive content related to each stage of the baby’s development.
