Vom Matrixsatz zum Diskursmaker: Die Grammatikalisierung von Hauptsache

Abstract

[EN] This paper has a double purpose. On the one hand, it intends to prove the existence of a discourse marker (DM) Hauptsache. This element preserves the core conceptual meaning of the homonymous noun, but differs from it with regard to its morphosyntactic and semantic features as well as to its discourse-organizing, information structuring, and modal functions. On the other hand, the emergence of Hauptsache as a discourse particle is explained on the grounds of a grammaticalization process similar to the ones described for the prototypical German DMs. Evidence drawn from a corpus of German and Austrian parliamentary protocols will show in which ways the six fundamental processes implied in the grammaticalization of DMs (decategorization, scope expansion, subjectification, persistence, syntactic fixation, phonetic and/or morphosyntactic reduction) can be found in the evolution from the matrix clause die Hauptsache is to the monolexematic Hauptsache. The paper ends with a brief discussion of the formal, semantical, and functional characteristics of Hauptsache.

[DE] Die vorliegende Arbeit verfolgt einen doppelten Zweck. Zum einen soll die Existenz eines Diskursmarkers (DM) Hauptsache nachgewiesen werden. Dieses Element behält zum Teil die Bedeutung von seinem homonymen Ausgängersubstantiv, doch unterscheidet sich von ihm durch seine morphosyntaktischen und semantischen Merkmale sowie durch die diskursorganisierenden, informationsstrukturierenden und modalisierenden Funktionen, die es auf Textebene ausübt. Zum anderen wird die Entstehung von Hauptsache als ein Grammatikalisierungsprozess erklärt, der es den prototypischen deutschen DM sehr nah bringt. Belege aus einem Korpus von Plenarprotokollen der deutschen und österreichischen Bundes- und Landtage zeigen, inwiefern die sechs grundlegenden Prozesse der Grammatikalisierung der DM (Dekategorisierung, Skopusausweitung, Subjektivierung, Persistenz, positionelle Fixierung, lautliche und/oder morphosyntaktische Reduktion) in der Entwicklung vom Matrixsatz die Hauptsache ist zum monolexematischen DM Hauptsache vorliegen. Zum Schluss werden die Charakterzüge von Hauptsache in Bezug auf seine Form, Bedeutung und Diskursfunktionen kurz dargestellt.
