Prefiero Alberto, noble e inteligente. En memoria del historiador de animación y crítico de cine Giannalberto Bendazzi (1946-2021)
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-03-14) Ružić, Andrijana
[EN] Animation authors are the most loving and humble and egoless people on this planet. They make masterpieces and they are not even aware of what they have done. That s why we should write about them, and about their efforts, somebody must valorise their beautiful, hard work. With these words Bendazzi summed up his love for animation and its creators. We can never be grateful enough to Bendazzi for his double duty in promoting the recognition of animation, fostering specialized publications and festivals, as well as encouraging the study of animation as adiscipline in its own right. The following article is Andrijana Ružić's tribute to Bendazzi, heartfully shared by all of us who animate and write about animation.

La expansión narrativa de ¡Rompe Ralph! La estrategia inversa como modelo comunicativo para el cine de animación de Disney
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-03-14) Álvarez Rodríguez, Víctor
[EN] This paper is a research about the development of the transmedia narrative for an animated film by Disney. Particularly, the communication actions assumed by this film company to keep its productions present in the consumer s life are studied in detail. Thus, we have studied the case of Wreck It Ralph! (2012), where a reverse product placement was developed. This exploration has required a qualitative methodology that has led us to investigate the implementation of this type of tools in a theoretical way. Likewise, an interview was conducted with Walter Crockett, Disney s digital marketing manager, in order to reach a pragmatic view on the issue. Consequently, we obtain a study that shows the dimensions and tools designed to extend the story of an animated film.

Utilización de patrones respiratorios en la transmisión de emociones mixtas en personajes animados

[EN] This article summons the results of an applied research in digital animation based on the recording of breathing patterns and their respective body movements when expressing mixed or complex emotions. To collect this information, we have analyzed video capture of emotions performed by an actress specialized in the acting method Alba Emoting. Such an acting method is based on the analysis of three elements, to access and express emotions: body posture, facial gesture and breathing patterns. The first two are traditionally used in animation, while breathing patterns have been less used when trying to convey emotional messages. On the other hand, the method postulates that there are six basic emotions and that, from combinations of their effectors, the entire expressive range available to the human being can be accessed. The results allow the construction of an experimental three-dimensional model to test how the breathing patterns can open access to a series of mixed emotions, which are difficult to convey using only body posture and facial gestures. These results are arranged in a matrix that picks out the effectors of the six basic emotions to produce a wide range of mixed or complex emotions. Finally, the essay proposes a practical methodology to build an animated sequence that expresses mixed emotions based on breathing patterns.

Round the bend, metamorfosis visual a cámara lenta: las pinturas animadas de Jeremy Blake
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-03-14) Roncero Palomar, Ricardo
[EN]   Jeremy Blake (1991-2007) was an artist better known for his "moving paintings." These are digital animations made up of dreamlike and abstract elements, a collage layered with elements like digital painting, drawing, photography or video. This article develops the workflow used by the creator to achieve that animation so characteristic of his work. Then, one of his lesser-known works, Round the Bend, a video commissioned by the American musician Beck, is studied to classify it within the set of animations made by the artist and to see if it can be classified as a piece of visual music.

Representación artística y métodos múltiples de participación en la práctica de la Animación Etnográfica
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-03-14) Wang, Yijing
[EN] Nowadays, the topic of rapidly developing non-fiction animations has significantly broadened and begins to involve the cultures or experiences of ethnic minorities. Merits of animation enables researchers and ethnic minorities to cooperate with each other to visualize non-written materials such as ethnic minority oral history and ancient folk songs via vivid animated images. However, different focuses of animations and the different actual situations of subjects make it necessary for researchers to consider how to apply appropriate artistic representation strategies and cooperative methods to displaying animation content in animation practice. This article analyses the different representation strategies in animated documentaries, the application methods of ethnic minority local artistic elements, and the cooperation mode in fieldwork, so as to improve the theoretical basis and practical system for ethnographic animation, and explore ethnographic animation as a new form of ethnographic documentary that can effectively convey true opinions of ethnic minorities while showing its cultural phenomena.
